Did you know that Hummel figurines were based on the art sketches of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel? Her drawings were the subject of art cards back in the 1930’s when Goebel acquired the rights to produce them into the figurines we are familiar with today. They were introducted to America in the mid 30s, but popularity grew after WWII and continued with the increase in Euaropean travel. Prices for these figurines skyrocketed in the 70’s. While today’s market is much softer, there still remains a faithful following for these adorable little moppets. We have a small collection available at our sale this weekend. While you might not be a true collector, there is usually at least one that speaks to your heart. My treasured one is called “Friends” featuring a little girl with a fawn given to me by my mother when she returned from travelling in Germany.
