Why is it important to our clients that Sheridan Estate Sales II belongs to the American Society of Estate Liquidators (ASEL)?
Currently there are over 300 estate sale providers around Chicago and the North Shore. Less than 4% or 11 of those providers belong to ASEL. Sheridan Estate Sales II is one of the eleven.
ASEL is the #1 estate sale association in the U.S. It was formed in 2001. ASEL expects its members to uphold standards of conduct combined with best practices as a measure of effectiveness and integrity in the estate sale industry.
There is NO regulation in the estate sale industry. There are no barriers to entry so the industry has providers which have no or minimal experience and may be using questionable practices. There is no licensing, bonding or oversight by any governmental agency.
Being accepted as an ASEL member we must adhere to their code of Ethics. This code reinforces that you, the client, can be confident you are working with professionals who are top tier. The Code covers conflicts of interest, payment of taxes, professionalism, honest representation, fairness in fees and pricing, trustworthiness, accountability, credibility, and reputation.
When estate sale companies apply to ASEL they have to represent the following:
- You will adhere to the Code of Ethics;
- You have a business structure;
- You have governmental authorizations/licenses, permits to do business;
- You carry liability insurance;
- There are no civil actions or outstanding judgments against the entity;
- You have not been convicted of a felony;
- There are no outstanding complaints lodged against you by the BBB, consumer protections agencies, arbitration authorities or other dispute resolution organizations.
- You submit professional references.
Upon completion of the application and review you can be accepted to become a member of ASEL. Again, less than 4% or 11 out of 300 local estate sale companies are able to claim membership. 96% of the other estate sale providers do NOT belong to ASEL.
Sheridan Estate Sales II applied and was accepted by ASEL because we are known as ethical, responsible, and serious business owners.
